What's Happening Now?
Project Update: 6th Ave NW Neighborhood Greenway
As soon as mid-June, construction will resume on the next stage of the 6th Ave NW Neighborhood Greenway! This work will include new speed humps, stop signs for side streets crossing the neighborhood greenway, and new signs and pavement markings to help people find their way.
Additional construction coming soon will improve the existing crossing signal for people walking, biking and rolling across NW Market St at the 5th/6th intersection:
- Install curb ramps
- Improve ability for people biking to cross NW Market St by installing bike push buttons and bike waiting zones separated from vehicle traffic with shielding islands
- Revise vehicle operation to right in / right out only for 6th Ave NW and 5th Ave NW through the extension of the existing median island and updating signs and pavement markings
- Mailboxes on the SE corner will be relocated to improve accessibility from the sidewalk

Project Update: 28th Ave NW – Adams ES Neighborhood Greenway
We are excited to announce that we are starting construction on the Adams Elementary Neighborhood Greenway on 28th Ave NW as soon as spring 2024! We will be installing the Neighborhood Greenway in stages, starting this spring and finishing in 2024. View the project map below and visit the project webpage for more information.
Project Update: 1st Ave NW – Broadview-Thomson ES Neighborhood Greenway
We are excited to announce that we have reached our final design milestone and will start construction in 2024 on the Broadview-Thomson Elementary Safe Route to School. The improvements include new sidewalks, curb ramps, and marked crosswalks. Visit the project webpage for more information.

Improvements to existing signalized crossing:
- Add a protected bike lane in the eastbound direction
- Refresh pavement markings and signs to clarify allowable vehicle movements
- Add bike dots on the crosswalk
- Add one painted curb bulb and stop sign on the SE corner of NW 43rd St and 7th Ave NW

What's a Neighborhood Greenway?
Neighborhood greenways are safer, calmer residential streets for you, your family, and your neighbors. We make people walking and biking the priority. Neighborhood greenways can include:
- Easier crossings of busy streets with crosswalks, flashing beacons, or traffic signals
- Speed humps to calm traffic
- 20 mph speed limit signs
- Stop signs for side streets crossing the neighborhood greenway
- Signs and pavement markings to help people find their way
Funding
These projects were primarily funded by the 9-year Levy to Move Seattle, approved by voters in 2015. Funding also came from additional sources, such as the Neighborhood Street Fund program and Safe Routes to School grants.
Schedule
The North Seattle Neighborhood Greenway & School Safety Project and associated Neighborhood Street Fund projects began construction in 2017 and were completed in early 2019:
